Wes Hanson

Wes Hanson lives on a farm near Coeur d' Alene and taught literature and composition and Lakeland High School for 30 years.  He paints landscape watercolors and acrylic abstracts and has studied with such artists as Don Andrews, Corole Barnes, Stephen Quiller, Irving Shapiro, Zoltan Szabo, and Milford Zorns. He has put on a number of one-man exhibitions in local galleries and has taught art classes.

Hanson's landscape paintings combine realism and impressionism.  Though they accurately depict scenes he has sketched, they also invite the viewer's mind to go beyond seeing objects literally.  He believes this is the invitation that a painting, like nature, presents scenes that are both real and mystical and should encourage the mind to ponder and wonder.  He believes a well done painting renews a person's ability to see what is commonplace in an extraordinary way.
