Pat Schilling, Photographer

I have been a resident of Spokane since 1980. I am married, with 3
grown children, as well as a grandaughter.

I've been shooting pictures off and on since the 70's, although I
would consider much of those early images just snapshots. I picked up
my camera again in 2000, and began shooting with a passion I had not
known before.  Now, I spend much of my free time in pursuit of
photographic excellence.

My goal in photography is simple:  to capture the beauty I see in the
world around us, and share that with others. While the concept is
simple, the execution isn't always! And while I often times go to
those same famous locations that the masters of photography have
gone, and shoot many of the same kinds of shots, I also attempt to
show things in a different light.

I love traveling to the many National Parks we have here in the
American West.  Photo opportunities abound in each, and there is
NEVER enough time to take it all in. Each time I return to a Park, I
always find something new, along with fresh looks at the "old" spots.

Of the areas I visited, my two favorites are Arches National Park,
and Monument Valley (not a Nat'l Park, but as beautiful as any!)
There are countless subjects to shoot in each, and all within a close
proximity. One can make several photo stops in a day, with little
travel time between. It's allows one to focus one's time and energy
on shooting, not driving!

I've always been drawn to shooting landscapes. I am in awe of the
magnificence of mother nature. You'll also notice I like to include
the moon in many images. I was inspired by Ansel Adam's famous
shot, "Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico". But in shooting moon shots
at night, I've been drawn to city nightscapes in recent years.
There's just something about the city lights, their varied colors,
and how they interact with the architecture, that appeals to me.
