"Come see what it means."
—Reed McColm, IPT Artistic Director
"A beautiful story and three amazing actresses to tell it. What more can a director ask for?"
—Maria A Caprile
Echo is a precocious teen, a spelling bee champion, who has been raised primarily by her eccentric grandmother, Dorothea.
Echo's mother, Artie, felt lifelong pressures placed upon her by Dorothea's impossible ambitions, and so retreated from both mother and daughter shortly after Echo's birth. But young Echo has embraced Dorothea's wild drive, hoping her own improbable accomplishments will make Artie proud of her at last.
When Dorothea suffers a health problem Artie is forced to return to Echo as a mother — a role she never quite knew how to fulfill.
The production is directed by Interplayers veteran, Maria Caprile (The Graduate) who played the roles of Ethel in On Golden Pond and Esther in Arthur Miller’s The Price in previous Interplayers seasons. Dorothea is played by Tamara Schupman who appeared last season as Mrs. Braddock, Benjamin’s mother, in The Graduate. Ms. Schupman has spent 14 seasons with the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theater where you’ll see her in Cinderella and Hairspray this July and August. Artie is played by Nancy Gasper, a member of the improv troupe at The Blue Door Theatre. Ms. Gasper recently stage managed Steel Magnolias at Spokane Civic Theatre. Her work as an actress includes One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Laughing Stock, and Crimes of the Heart. Echo is played by Rainee Palmer, a student in Eastern Washington University’s Theatre Department.
A Talkback is scheduled following the April 28th show. Enjoy the art of Carol Schmauder and Michael Mihalov showing in the Gelhorn Gallery through May 1.
